Word Of The Year

At the beginning of a new year most people start to look at their lives and set new years resolutions and goals and in the past I have always done the same. This year however I wanted to look at my year ahead in a slightly different way. I do have some goals I would like to achieve for the year, but I haven’t set any new years resolutions per say.

This year I have set out a word for the year that means something to me and will inspire me to live my life in a certain way. I think that this is a good way to inspire yourself without putting too much pressure on yourself to meet certain goals that can sometimes be over ambitious.

Now I know that 2019 for me is going to be busy. The first half of the year for me isn’t a time that I will necessarily be able to focus on my goals one hundred percent . With a new baby and a wedding looming, realistically I wont be spending time working on my big goals and so by setting a word to live by for the year I won’t feel guilty about not reaching certain dreams by a certain date.

My word of the year is Intention. For me this word sparks an all around feeling for how I want to live my life this year. I want to be present with my family and I want to spend my time intentionally. I would like each day to have meaning and intention and for me each day will be different with a different intention. Whether my intention for the day is rest or work, it doesn’t matter as long as I am setting that intention for the day.

Intention for me doesn’t just go for my time either. It also stands for my purchases and spending. In a world where we are told to spend spend spend, I would like to be more intentional with my money and more conscious with my purchases. I want my spending to be well thought out.

To do this, each time I’m considering a purchase I am asking myself certain questions such as;

  • Do we need this?
  • Is this an ethical purchase?
  • How long will this item last?
  • Where will it be kept?

You get the idea. I want to know that I’m really considering my spending and buying high-quality items that will last a long time, so if that means waiting on a purchase and spending a little more for a higher quality item then I’m good with that.

I think the word intention can be applied to every area of my life and using this word really makes me think about every aspect of my day. I am beginning each day with writing the word on my hand so that I have a visual reminder all day to be intentional and honestly it makes me happy and inspired to see the word written there.

It feels good to not have the pressure of ambitious new years resolutions and instead to have a word to base my year upon. How are you going about your goals this year? Do you write new years resolutions and goals or do you have a word of the year? If you do have a word I’d love to hear what it is.

Love & Light To You All
